Motion Picture Alphabet

Ever since Millie did this swell, cardinal, peachy and keen post, I've been wanting to try it. The idea is, each one of the following 26 films is meant to define me. They're not necessarily my favorites, but they mirror my life in some way. (Or, have influenced my life in some way...) It was soo difficult not to just pick my favorites off the list (actually, I did do that once..or maybe twice..), and there were a few letters that I couldn't find movies for, but it was still fun! I tried to keep the list to just old movies, otherwise it would've been inconceivably complicated and I might've passed out from the sheer impossibility of having to choose from so many of my favorite films! *sigh*

A: the Apartment (1960)
There are some that take, and some that get took.

B: Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
No, I am not a hooker.

C: a tie between Cinderfella (1960) and Charade (1963)
(not that I've ever been a princess, and not that I've ever been terrorized by ruthless WWII soldiers in pursuit of my murdered husband's money, but whatever...)

D: the Disorderly Orderly (1964)
I have an invalid mother and an invalid sister so...yeah.

F: Funny Face (1957)
I can just totally relate to Jo, even though I enjoy fashion much more than empathicalism (or whatever the heck it was)

G: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. (1953)
I am a brunette.

Life story.

H: Hans Christian Anderson (1953)
I totally DEPLORE this movie. Well, actually, I like all the ballet but I just can't stand Danny Kaye (I know, I must be in the minority here). Hating this movie has taken up a large modicum of my life since 2005.

I: can't choose between It's a Wonderful Life (1946) and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963). Both seem pretty dead-on.

J: the Jungle Book (1967)
Huge part of my life, ever since I was a little kid.

L: Life With Father (1947)
Did I say this film in any way mirrored my home life? No, not at all...

M: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

and

the Miracle Worker (1962)

O: the Odd Couple (1968)
(a picture-perfect portrait of my parents, except my mother doesn't look anything like Walter Matthau...thank God)

P: the Parent Trap (1961)
When my best friend and I were little, we used to pretend that we were long-lost twins (because we were so much alike) and we sang "Let's Get Together" all the time...ah, childhood...

R: Roman Holiday (1953)
The movie that started it all: my old-film obsession, my Audrey Hepburn obsession, my old-film obsession....

S: the Stooge (1953)
The greatest motion picture since sliced bread. Captures the essence of Martin and Lewis in cinematic format. And of course, Martin and Lewis are practically my life.

T: the Thin Man (1934)

U: the Unforgiven (1960)

V: Vivacious Lady (1938)
Elevated Jimmy Stewart into major-leading-man status for me.*swoon*

W: What's Up Doc? (1973)

Y: You're Never Too Young (1955)
The first time I ever saw Martin and Lewis. Definitely influential.

  1. I LOVE this idea! I bet it was hard, I know it would be hard for me to choose too, although we share some favorites! Keep up the good work!
